A big boy...

It's hard to believe that my little Gray is growing so fast.  I know I keep saying that, but he just keeps changing and getting bigger.  He now has a new big boy carseat and big boy shoes...and he's 9 months old (and 18lbs 9oz and 27 1/2 inches long)!

This big boy is also requiring us to do some major babyproofing around the house.  It's starting to look like we live in a mental institution with all of the padding everywhere.  And let me just say, finding baby gates for the stairs and extra wide openings is not easy.  We're still trying to get all of the pieces that we need for the gates to come in and in the meantime I'm working on putting more padding on furniture, getting cabinet locks, and just chasing down the little monster before he gets into something.

2nd tooth sighting...

Yep, it's true! The second tooth is now visible...right next to the first one nd when Gray smiles you see these two little white teeth popping up from his bottom gum...very cute!

2 Pack A Day Habit...

Or at least that's what Gray sounds like lately. After the pink eye came the congestion and the horrible choking cough. It's worse at night, which means none of us are sleeping well. And of course, because he's choking on the drainage, I don't want him all the way in his room, so he's been sharing a bed with Wil and I.  You would never realize that someone so little takes up so much space in a bed.

Since the cough seems to be getting worse instead of better, we finally decided that we needed a medical opinion and took the little monkey to the doctor yesterday, only to be told that there's nothing we can do. We are giving him some benadryl (per the doctor's recommendation), some motrin (for the sore throat), saline drops to help clean out the nose, and vicks vapor rub for the congestion as well. So far, no improvement, but hopefully soon.

And if the bathroom issues, the pink eye, the congestion, and the cough wasn't enough...on Friday, Gray bumped his head at daycare and has a nice bruise on his forehead.  Poor little guy! This attempting to walk thing is not as easy at it looks.  To make him feel a bit better I guess, I somehow got my toe caught on the sofa and pulled my big toe toenail half off. OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not so pretty in pink

Well, just to continue with our rough week...I got a call from daycare informing me that Grayson has pink eye and that he needed to be picked up.  When it rains, it pours I guess.  So, I called the pediatrician and they called in a prescription and we began immediately to treat his eyes, wondering how long it was going to be before both Wil and I shared that rosy hue of eyeball color (and of course the lovely drainage). I am happy to report that thus far, we do not seem to have contracted this dreaded affliction and hope that we will be able to avoid it.

As the weekend progressed, Gray's eyes were looking much better, but he seems to have developed some congestion and a terrible cough, which I think is really just the drainage from his sinuses.  Poor little guy...talk about a rough week!

Oh SH**!!!

In this case, I'm talking literally.  Without going into too much detail about how horrible my day was, I will just say that I believe I easily deserved a glass or two of wine tonight.

The bad luck actually started on Monday evening when the dog had an allergic reaction to his vaccines.  His face swelled and he was miserable trying to scratch his face on anything he could.  We gave him some of Gray's benadryl and that seemed to help with the itching and took some of the swelling down, but not completely, so I called the vet when I got to work today.  The vet was going to give us some prednisone to give to him and my plan was to pick that up after work...well, that was until I got a call from daycare.

A call from daycare is always a dreaded thing...it  never seems to be with great news like, "you know that Grayson is just such a doll today." And again, they did not call with good news.  Apparently, Gray was having some difficulty going to the bathroom, was in an extreme amount of pain, and had blood in his diaper.  So, needless to say, I quickly called the Pediatrician to find out what to do.  After giving her the information that I got from the daycare, she told me to go to the daycare and get some additional information, which I did and she recommended that he didn't need to come in, just to pick up the medicine she told me and do the things she recommended and keep an eye on him.

So, Gray and I left daycare and stopped at the pharmacy to get his meds, stopped at the vet to get Indy's meds and headed home.  We got home and I put Gray down to get the meds ready when I heard the most horrifying scream.  I will just say that I'm not sure I'll ever get that scream out of my head and I truly hope to never hear anything like that again. What happened next, I won't go into details, but I am still traumatized. I called the doctor again because I wanted Gray to be seen to ensure that he didn't not rupture something or do any serious damage to himself.

We got to the doctor and got some additional "treatment" recommendations and came back home. He broke several capillaries in his face and has a tear on his bum from this experience, but the doctor seems to think that it is quite normal and will heal just fine and so for now his diet includes regular doses of prunes and apple juice. The real question is whether or not I'll heal from this experience!

8 Month Photos

Time is really flying and it's hard to believe that the little man is 8 months old already.  So, it was time for his next photo session.  Unfortunately, he was not really in the mood for pictures today, but that's alright.  He's still a keeper, smiling or not.
"Now you said this was a Star"fish", right? So, that means it's edible?"
"You should see how fast I can move now."
"This doesn't taste like food."
"Hello, plastic prop."
"Ok, I'll give you one smile so you'll stop talking."
"You better keep your eye on me or I'm gonna make a break for it."
"I'm forming my plan right now."
"I will not smile...no matter how many funny faces you make."
A little time with my friend, monkey.
"Are we almost done?"
"Hi Monchichi."
"You've got to be kidding me."
"Alright, I give in...here's your big smile."
"Come on, that was good enough, wasn't it?"
