Facebook may be the coolest thing...

It's official...Facebook may be the coolest thing ever.  I've found it fun and entertaining to catch up with friends from high school and college and see what they're doing. It's also been a great way to keep in touch and share pictures, etc with all of my friends...but today I got perhaps the coolest friend request!

When I was a senior in high school we had several foreign exchange students...I know it's hard to believe that anyone would want to come to Tipton, IN...but they did..and one of those foreign exchange students became a great friend and was a big part of the fun of my senior year.  Her name was Yasuko Yashimoto.  Last night I got a friend request and a message from Yasuko. I couldn't believe it!

Sickness...

We've been plagued with illness in the house for the past week or so.  I was the first to catch it.  I think we actually caught this illness when we went to Stroller Strides.  The instructors 2 little kids seemed to be quite sick and coughing...alas...the next day I started to have a sore throat and it all went downhill from there. I got sick...then Wil...then Grayson.

Gray and I went to our respective doctors...I got antibiotics...Gray's doctor said he had to just let it run its course.  Poor little guy! He's miserable all week...and that means he's been really grumpy unless he's being held and he hasn't been sleeping well at all.  Fortunately, yesterday afternoon he seemed like he was starting to get better and his sleep was much better last night.  Keep your fingers crossed that he continues to feel better and gets back on track with his sleep...that will help everyone.

I'm also starting to feel a bit better and felt well enough that today I let daddy babysit the little guy and I worked on reorganizing his closet and dresser.  It really felt good to get that done.  I also sorted things to take to storage and goodwill. And even started working on redecorating the master bedroom.  We've decided to change the wall decorations. I think over the summer I may repaint the bedroom...we'll see. hmmm...so many little things to do...

On another note, we finally got our newborn pictures from Portrait Excellence by Beverly and the pictures from Weadon Photography.  They are BEAUTIFUL!! They are truly works of art and I'm so excited we got them.  And works of art are not cheap...

A note to visitors

It has been brought to my attention that I tend to be a little stingy with Grayson.  I assure you that this is not my intention, but I also don't want to force anyone to hold the baby.  As I've previously noted he has issues with reflux, so if you hold him you do take the risk of being spit-up on.  However, if you've come to the house you're probably already covered in Indy's doggy slobber and hair...so what's a little spit-up to top it off.

So to all visitors, if we get together and you want to hold the baby...just tell me.  You're more than welcome...I promise that I'm not trying to be stingy with the little man. :)

Delinquent

Yes, I've been delinquent about updating the blog.  I will admit that I've been shocked about how much time I actually have to do all of the little things that I've wanted to do like reorganizing closets, working on the photography business, reading, etc.  I have a healthy new respect for stay-at-home moms, previously believing that they have all the time in the world. Alas, I realize that that isn't the case. So, here I will try to quickly update on the past month of our activities. I will post pictures later once I have time to download them.

Christmas
Christmas was very good to Master Grayson.  He received many great gifts and someday I'm sure he'll be able to play with them.

Christmas can be tiring

New Years
I had grand plans for Gray's New Years Eve, but alas...I was just way too tired and we were all in bed well before midnight.  I don't think I even woke up to ring in the new year...hopefully I'll feel a little more up to it next year.

Visitors
Grayson has received many great visitors...on December 28th, Auntie Heather and her boys Toby and Aaron drove all the way from Indiana to meet Grayson.  And as it always seems to be whenever Heather and I plan to meet up, whether it is Hershey or Fredericksburg, the drive was quite the adventure with Heather getting lost in Winchester, VA on the way out here and the way home.  Plus she had to drive through freezing rain on her way home on New Years Eve which meant that it took her almost 3 hours to go 75 miles. Ick!

Other than the driving adventures and the cursing that I'm sure Heather did about me living so far away, we had a great time having them here and even made our first day trip to DC.  Granted it was a very cold day, so we made it to the Washington Monument and then quickly headed to the American History Museum to get warm. Perhaps we'll have to try again on a warmer day.

We also had a visit from Tamara on January 9th and Staci, Mike, and Noah on January 10th.  It was great seeing everyone and catching up.  I can't believe how much Noah has grown just since I last saw him in October. It's hard to believe that Grayson will someday be that big and active.  Noah is such a happy baby and it was a lot of fun watching him with Gray's toys because let's be honest, Gray isn't really "playing" yet...so it was nice for those toys to get some use. :)

Growing
While Gray isn't as big as Noah yet, he is growing like a weed. The week of New Years he gained a pound! And he just keeps growing at a rapid pace.  He's now 9lbs 4.5oz. I know that's a good thing, but my little baby is just growing way too fast.  The clothes that used to be baggy on him are now fitting or snug.  I can't believe how time is flying. But he still gets cuter everyday...even if I do say so myself.

Reflux
We discovered around New Years that Gray appears to have issues with reflux.  At first we just thought that that was the new "cool" thing for babies, but it really appears to be an issue for him.  He seems to be in pain and spits-up quite a bit and is especially in pain when he's spitting up. We've been trying everything that the doctor is telling us to try and now doing a bit of experimenting to see if we can find the solution that helps our little guy.  We've tried Zantac which doesn't seem to really help, but just makes him spit-up a lot. We've tried adding Rice Cereal to his formula...if nothing else, he seems to really like that. We've tried switching formula to something I'm calling Liquid Gold (or at least it's price seems like that's what it is).  We thought it was working at first, but then he seemed to go back to the same issues.  We tried going down to 4oz, but that didn't help...so now we're trying 5oz of the Liquid Gold with rice cereal in it.  We'll try that for a few feedings and see if we see improvement, if so what improvement and decide what else we should do then. Guessing and trial and error is all that the doctor seems to be doing, so since we spend the majority of time with him, why shouldn't we be doing our own trial and error to figure this out.

Pictures
As usual I've been quite busy taking little Gray to either have pictures taken or taking them myself. We've now reviewed all of the pictures taken thus far and made our appropriate orders.  He'll go again next week to get his 8 week pictures.  It's hard to believe that he's almost 2 months already.

Sleep
Over the holidays, Gray's sleep was sporadic at best.  The day that everyone went home he slept from 9pm to 230am! What a way to start the new year.  We were gradually walking our way out until about 4am and doing pretty well.  However, with the trial and error on the reflux treatments we've had a few steps backwards.  But we have hope that once again we'll start making our way toward sleeping through the night.

A Little Mommy Time
While I love spending time with my little fella sometimes a mommy needs some mommy time and in my case, she desperately needed a massage and a facial. So, on January 16th, I went for just that.  I got myself a massage and a facial at a spa downtown. However, I realized that I will not go to that particular spa again.  I hurt worse now than I did before the spa.  The Masseuse did a number on my back. I think I may have bruises. Now, I know that I'm a wimp, but geez...most places ask if you want hard or light/medium.  I admit that I'm a light/medium kinda gal.  I may need another massage just to fix the damage done by the massage yesterday.  And the facial was a bit on the rough side as well. I'm not a big fan of the "extractions".  I'm sure it's good for my skin...but really I go for a massage or a facial to feel better afterwards, not to be in pain. I am aware that beauty is pain, but this was a little too literal of an example of that.

Time to Get in Shape
As I sat and thought I realized that I've been pregnant for a good part of the last 3 years, first with Bailey, then 2 miscarriages, and then Grayson.  So, in the past 3 years my body has had a lot of wear and tear and abuse heaped on it.  This has resulted in more than a few extra pounds and my being more than a little out of shape right now. I've been trying work on getting back in shape by trying to squeeze in some Wii Fitness Time and now I'm looking at trying out a mommy and baby aerobics class called Stroller Strides. (I'll keep you posted on how that goes.) Finding time for Wii Fitness has been a challenge with Grayson's sleep schedule during the day being somewhat sporadic and let me just say, trying to do the Wii Fitness exercises holding a baby isn't not the easiest thing to do. I like to think of it as a high intensity workout.

We were also able to take our first walk around the neighborhood on January 15th, thanks to the great weather we've been having.  It was up to 42 degrees...balmy...

Well, those are at least the highlights of what's been going on over the past month.  And as it's getting close to time for Master Grayson to eat again, I should probably conclude this post.  Hopefully, it won't take me another month before I find the time to post again or add pictures to this post.
